Returnable Tray for Tire Pressure Sensors
A major tier one supplier required a returnable tray for high volume parts - in this case tire pressure sensors. The trays would stack, but required clearance between the tray and the parts. In addition they must stack without having to rotate each tray 180 degrees. To meet this requirement our designers had to incorporate undercut features in the tooling. This specific tray design used 8 gravity activated tooling inserts that work simply and effectively to create major undercuts in the part while still allowing free de-molding. The sensors are handled with robotics, making cavity accuracy very important.
